How To Open Blocked Email Attachments In Outlook 2010

Have you ever come across a situation where you were not able to open or download an email attachment while using Microsoft Outlook 2010? Microsoft Outlook 2010 has a set of security features that are intended to provide a good level of security while handling your various email accounts. Since it connects to the internet to access your email messages, there is a high risk of infection of your computer by malicious programs and harmful malware that creep in through the email, and hence create many Outlook problems. So if you set up protection for your computer, it blocks certain formats of file attachments that it thinks potentially unsafe to open. This applies to all email accounts, no matter whether it’s a trusted email address, and is on your Outlook contacts list. But if you think that it is safe to open that attachment, you may reconfigure Outlook to allow such attachments, which are included in the list of blocked formats.

Instructions
  • Open the “Start” menu and type “regedit” into the Search box. Press the “Enter” key.
  • When you get the User Account Control dialog box, click “Yes”.
  • In the Registry Editor window, locate "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder and right-click to select the “Expand” option.
  • Under this folder, you need to expand the following folders - "Software", "Microsoft", "Office", "14.0" and "Outlook".
  • In “Outlook” folder, click on “Security” folder.
  • Choose an empty space on the right pane and right-click to select “New” from the pop up menu. Further choose “String Value”.
  • Enter the name for the new string as “Level1Remove" and press the “Enter” key.
  • After typing the name, double-click on "Level1Remove" icon.
  • It’s now time to type file extension of the blocked file attachment. Type the extension into the "Value data" box. Suppose the extension is “.doc”; then type this in, and click “OK”. If there are more than one type of file attachment, you can type those extensions separated with a semi-colon. For example, ".doc;.txt;.dat".
  • Now close the windows which are open, and reboot your computer.
  • Launch your Outlook 2010 and try to download the email attachment. You should be able to download and access the attachment.

Advanced Support Tools For Windows Vista

To improve the functionality and usability of the Vista operating system, certain tools were developed by the IT support team of Microsoft. You can use such tools to find and resolve the various computer issues. On top of that, you can use such tools to improve the security of the programs and access network components. Please be advised that some of the above mentioned tools are preinstalled with the operating system. However, there are other advanced tools that need to be downloaded from the internet. Let’s see them in detail.

Program Compatibility Wizard

When you upgrade from a relatively smaller version of Windows to Vista, some of the older programs may not work properly. This is usually because of the compatibility issues. You can use the program compatibility wizard to make the program run on the Vista operating system.  After installing the problem, you can access the same from the Start menu. Locate the menu labeled Run and click on the same. When the Run box is displayed, enter the path “hcp://system/compatctr/compatmode.htm” in the required field. To fix the issues, you need to follow the onscreen instructions provided by the wizard. From the wizard, the users can manipulate a variety of settings. This includes all the administrator rights and display settings. If the person is not the administrator, the user may experience an issue running the wizard.

Network and Sharing Center

Another miracle from the IT support team is the Network and Sharing center. You can use this tool to establish access to the Windows operating system networking components. In addition, you can use the same to diagnose and manipulate the settings regarding the standard network access. To view the summary of all the information on the networks, simply open the tool and select the “Option” for the same.

Computer Management

To access this menu, navigate to the option labeled “Start”. This will display a list of options. Now select this tool from the “system tools” section. You can use this tool to view event logs and other important system information. You can also manage the disk volumes on remote networks as well as on the local ones. To consolidate space and free up memory, users can even run the defragmentation tool.  Another important tool is the BitLocker Drive Encryption which is used primarily to secure the sensitive data.

Theses are the various tools that can be used to enhance the performance of Windows Vista. Thanks for visiting this webpage.
